Applications are now open for the 2026 NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship in the Netherlands. This fully funded program welcomes international applicants from all over the world. Hosted by the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) in Amsterdam, the fellowship focuses on the humanities and social sciences. It lasts for 5 months and runs in two cycles: either from September to January or February to June, 2026.
The Safe Haven Fellowship is designed for scholars, writers, journalists, and artists who are unable to work safely in their home countries due to war, conflict, or restrictions on their freedom. The program offers a temporary, secure space where they can continue their work without fear.

Requirements:
- People from any country can apply for the Safe Haven Fellowship.
- For Research Ideas: You must have completed at least three years of research after earning your PhD before you apply.
- For Art or Journalism Ideas: You don’t need a PhD or three years of research to apply.
- The work you plan to do must be in the field of humanities or social sciences.
- You should be comfortable using English.
- You need to be on-site 4 days each week.
