INTRODUCTION:
In collaboration with SOAS University of London, this scholarship program aims to empower talented African students in fields essential to sustainable development. Hyundai Motor Group is committed to nurturing the next generation of changemakers, with a vision to create meaningful and lasting impact across the African continent.
This program provides a platform for academic success and connects students with a unique community of scholars, alumni, and Hyundai leaders, all dedicated to tackling global challenges and driving progress in Africa.
In addition, master’s students can apply for the Junior Internship Program at SOAS, which is part of the scholarship initiative.
AVAILABLE PROGRAMS
Scholarships on offer: 5 total, with 4 for Master’s students and 1 for a PhD candidate.
ELIGIBLE DEPARTMENTS
- Faculty of Economics and Financial Development
- Department of Law, Anthropology, and Political Studies
APPROVED PROGRAMS
- Full-time Master’s programs (1-year duration) beginning in 2025/26
- Any full-time research-based PhD (MPhil/PhD) starting in 2025/26.
- (Please note: Part-time or 2-year Master’s programs are not eligible).
SCHOLARSHIPS PERKS:
The Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship fully covers tuition fees for Master’s students, with any remaining amount from the £27,730 total award provided as a living stipend. PhD recipients will have their tuition covered for three years, plus the writing-up fee in the fourth year, along with an annual stipend of £22,780, paid out each term.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must hold citizenship from an African nation and normally reside on the continent
- Applicants must be new international students starting in 2025/26 and paying international fees.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE :
- Master’s Applicants: Should hold or be expecting a first-class honours degree (or an equivalent high-ranking qualification). While a 2:1 may be considered, it will not be given preference.
- PhD Candidates: Must have, or be expecting, a Master’s degree with Distinction (or an equivalent top-level qualification). Applicants with a Merit may be considered, but will not be prioritized.

- Your application to SOAS must be completed before you can apply for the scholarship.
- Ensure you’ve fulfilled the English language requirements ahead of the panel review
